Why Madtec?

After leaving school I went to Camborne College to study electronic and computing. During the years at college my friends and I would go camping at a woods in the Penzance area.  This was a time before mobile phones and Bluetooth speakers and we wanted some music however none for us had a portable stereo.

The solution was for me to make an audio amplifier. Work started on the amplifier with a massive budget of £2.00, A weeks pocket money at the time!  Sometime later it was ready. Well ready meaning a homemade wood box with wires hanging out of it, an old lead acid battery loose next to the box and an old speaker without any casing.

The next camping trip the system was tested using an old Walkman tape player as an audio source.

Amazingly it worked!

After a drink or two, one of my friends suggested I should start an electrics business and it could be called Madtec Electronics.

The next day on the walk home the lead acid battery leaked out in my bag burning a hole in the bag and and my jeans. Clearly more work was required!!

That was over 20 years ago and Madtec electronics never came to be.  Well until I moved in to my first home with a shed (Man Cave!!) in 2017. So it seemed fitting that this shed should become Madtec a place I can re-explore my interest in electronics and making things.
